Day 3. - Our last day in Nice
The sun was out, at least for the moment. We are on the yellow bus again. It is interesting to note that people tended to sit in the same seats as they were sitting in yesterday. I know we did, right up front on the left side behind the driver. Any further back and I would get car sick. As we were leaving town, we pass by the library, a very unusual building- a head! it houses the library
We first went to Eze, a hilltop town along the coast. It is an old cobbled medieval city. We had been warned to watch our footing as we made the climb. Not only are the paths up narrow and steep, they also can be slippery. There are private homes, stores, and a hotel that have all been repurposed among the medieval walls. There was a very rich man who didn’t want to have to drag the water up the steep paths. He donated money to have pipes bring water up the hill. A drinking fountain is a most unusual feature. Lynda had another purchasing tea towel opportunity.
Back on the bus and on to Monte Carlo. Howard had a slight incident as we were approaching the casino on foot. He somehow had his knee cap slip out of place. He kept on, but more slowly. You can go into the main lobby of the casino for free, but if you want to play, it is 20 Europe to go in the gambling area and you have to show your passport. Needless to say, we chose not to gamble. Howard did stand by a car he would love to have - not going to happen. Monaco/Monte Carlo is where the famous Grand Prix race runs through the streets. We stood above the race area. They are already getting things set up for the race in May. Also saw a lot of VERY expensive yachts moored in the harbor.
Finally back to the hotel after a long day. Time for a rest before our dinner reservations in the old city. It was lightly raining when we started out. Howard said he was okay walking, but a couple of blocks in he started having trouble even wearing a knee brace I had brought with me. We made it to the restaurant, Bar des Oiseaux, in old town. A small place but great reviews. The portions were small, but so were the prices. We had one appetizer, one glass of wine, two main dishes, two desserts, an expresso and a cup of tea. The total price was 74 euro. Everything was creatively served. Not in an way we normally might expect it to be served. Once we were back at the hotel, we got some ice for Howard’s knee. He rested and Lynda repacked everything so the bags could be picked up outside our door by 7:30 the next morning.

Wow, Oiseau looks really cool. I’ll add that to the “forever” bucket list!
